Local Dentist takes a Stand Against Sweets this Halloween

What’s a ghost’s favorite candy?  BOO-ble gum!

One area dentist is redefining the phrase “put your money where your mouth is.” This Halloween, trick-or-treaters can bring their excess candy to Dr. Salvatore Storniolo’s dental office located at 8524 W. Lawrence Avenue in Norridge. (Just look for the big blue awning out front.) For every pound of candy brought in, the child will receive $1 up to $5.  Not only will you be paid to bring in that cavity-provoking candy, you’ll also be entered into a drawing for a $25 gift card.

Now you say, “Why would I want to turn in all my “goodies?” Once the candy is collected, Dr. Sstormiolo and his office will be shipping the candy to Operation Gratitude and other military support groups overseas. The candy is then sent to U.S. military deployed in harm’s way. So as not to “decay” our troops, for every pound of candy shipped, Operation Gratitude will also send a toothbrush. Their goal is to send 100,000 toothbrushes overseas. Kids can still have all the fun of trick-or-treating but their piggy banks will benefit as well.

Global sugar consumption for kids increases by about 2% annually and currently sits at 50 million tons per year, which means parents need to be sure their kids’ teeth are being cared for more than ever. Candy, as well as hurting children’s teeth, can lead to hyperactivity and weight gain. In some cases, the wrong types of candy can also lead to broken teeth and damaged braces.

CANDY WILL BE COLLECTED ON NOVEMBER 1 FROM 11 AM TO 6 PM, 8524 W. Lawrence, Norridge. (Candy must be unopened)
