Village holds three dedication ceremonies
ELMWOOD PARK – Village officials, staff, community leaders and residents will gather for three special dedication ceremonies on Friday, May 3.
The first ceremony will be held to dedicate the new beautiful Centennial Park at the corner of Armitage and 76th Avenue/76th Court. The park was developed on the former site of the Elmwood Park Presbyterian Church. It features recreational activities for all ages, especially active seniors.
“We’re excited to see this park develop so quickly on a location that has played such an active role in the community,” President Pete Silvestri said. “I’m thrilled we’ll be able to enjoy it this summer and in the years ahead.”
The second dedication ceremony will follow at 10 a.m. on the northwest corner of Grand and Harlem. The event marks the substantial completion of the streetscaping of Grand and Harlem including the construction of the “Elmwood Park Gateway Fountain.”
“This was once a vibrant area that needed a boost,” Silvestri said. “We have seen a lot more business activity with the addition of the new Caputo’s. We look forward to welcoming the new McDonald’s later this year. The streetscaping elements we have introduced to the area mark the progress we have made and set the tone for the future.”
The third event takes place at 10:30 and will reveal the village’s “Sister City Piazza” with an honorary sign dedication to the City of Frosinone, Italy, at the corner of Eastbrook/Westbrook Drive and Fullerton.
“Frosinone is a beautiful city in central Italy. It was badly damaged in World War Two, but has been rebuilt into a very modern community,” Silvestri said. “We’re delighted to share this “sister city” relationship with them.”
