Village moves forward on economic development plan
4th of July Parade to have longer route, more participants
ELMWOOD PARK –  The Village Board has approved a sign permit for the village’s newest business development, a Nascar Car Wash to be built at (7525 Grand Avenue). NDP Group, LLC offers a unique car washing experience utilizing the latest in technology, such as its water filtration and treatment systems as well as a duel belt conveyor system to move cars through the wash.
“We’re excited to have a new business in town that’s consumer and environmentally friendly,” Village President Angelo “Skip” Saviano said. “As I said when I took office, economic development is vitally important to our village to deliver the services our residents deserve without raising property taxes.”
Meanwhile, work is progressing quickly to demolish the former Gunworks store near Grand and Harlem Avenues. Once completed, construction crews will be one step closer to building a new McDonalds restaurant on that location, part of the village’s Grand & Harlem redevelopment project.
Saviano also announced that this year’s 4th of July parade will be expanded to include more participants and a longer route. “I really think we can involve more residents in the parade and engage more families who want to watch such a wonderful event each summer.” The parade steps off at 10 a.m. (in the circle and proceeds north to Diversey, heads back to Grand Avenue, and ends at Fullerton and Westbrook Drive.
The Village Board Monday also approved Saviano’s plan to re-appoint auxiliary police officers for a term expiring on September 16, 2013. “We’re going to review our process for hiring auxiliary officers and implement those changes by the fall,” Saviano said. “I want to make sure we have a process that’s transparent and fair to all.”
In other news, representatives from the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) began their work in Elmwood Park this week, assisting homeowners who suffered damage in last month’s heavy rains. Homeowners, renters and business owners affected by the storms may register for assistance by calling the telephone registration line at (800) 621-FEMA (3362). Registration is required before an inspector can schedule a visit.
