FACULTY FOOTBALL GAME RAISES $3,400 FOR EAST LEYDEN STUDENT

A much-anticipated homecoming event, the annual Faculty Football Game is a fundraiser that benefits a person or organization.  This year the game raised more than $3,400 for Kasey Scotella, a senior at East Leyden, who has multiple seizure disorders.

Kasey often experiences seizures which are not readily recognized, therefore putting her well-being in jeopardy.  At school, she is escorted by one-on-one aides to ensure her safety.  Outside of school, Kasey is under the watchful eye of family members.

In an effort to allow Kasey more freedom and independence, her family is purchasing a specially trained medical dog that will help in predicting Kasey’s seizures and also keep her safe when they occur.  Due to the high cost of training, seizure dogs can range in price from $6,000-$8,000.  The money raised at the faculty football game will be paid directly to the Northern Indiana Service Dogs organization to help with the purchase of Jennifer, a 34 pound mixed breed dog that will become Kasey’s companion.  Kasey will be eligible to adopt the dog after she is fully trained in the spring of 2014.

The annual Faculty Football Game is sponsored by the East and West Leyden Sports & Entertainment Marketing classes.
