Franklin Park Library Board Vacancy

The Franklin Park Public Library District Board of Trustees is seeking an appointee to fill a vacant Trustee position on the Board.

Library Trustee is an elected position; however, a vacancy has arisen that must be filled by appointment. If the person who is appointed to this position wishes to remain on the Board and serve for the remainder of the unexpired term, he/she will be required to run in the next consolidated election in April of 2015. Library Trustees do not receive a salary. This is an unpaid position.

Responsibilities

The role of Library Trustee carries with it many responsibilities. Following are some of the basic expectations of a Trustee:

  • Attend monthly Board meeting
  • Preview the documents in the Board packet before each meeting
  • Participate in discussion and decision making at Board meetings
  • Stand by decisions made by the Board
  • Serve on committees as assigned by the Board President
  • Become an advocate for the Library in the community

Qualifications

Qualifications for the position of Library Trustee include the following:

  • Having an interest in the Library and its services
  • Be a resident of Franklin Park
  • Having an interest in the Franklin Park community and its needs
  • The ability to contribute adequate time for effective participation in Board activities and decision making
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • The ability to respect the opinions and contributions of other Trustees
