Franklin Park Public Library to Join SWAN

| February 17, 2016

The Library will join the SWAN consortium (a group of Illinois libraries) in May 2016. What does this mean for you as a Franklin Park card holder? Here are a few key points:

  1. A wider local library network. The Library is currently a member of LINC, a small group of 9 libraries. SWAN is comprised of over 77 libraries in the western and southern Chicago suburbs, including many nearby.
  2. A larger shared collection. You will gain access to close to 8 million items in SWAN.
  3. A familiar online catalog. Search a similar online catalog and place holds on items just as you do now.

While there are many benefits to this change, there will be service interruptions as we near the projected completion date of May 10, 2016. We hope to make the transition go smoothly, and will have a celebration in May.
