Village offers Trick-or-Treating safety tips, Halloween party
Final Farmers Market of the year set for Sunday

ELMWOOD PARK, IL — Elmwood Park Police have released a Halloween safety guide to help ensure that families experience a fun and safe holiday. Consistent with prior years, the Elmwood Park Police Department will assign extra officers the evening shift on Halloween to help encourage responsible behavior.
“We ask that all parents monitor their children’s activities and encourage their children to act responsibly,” Police Chief Frank Fagiano said. “We want everyone to have a good time, but we want to emphasize the importance of respect for other people, their property and the need to exercise good common sense.”

Among the tips and strategies Police recommend, children should trick-or-treat in a group escorted by a parent or adult. Kids should not wear masks that obstruct their vision or hearing and should wear brightly colored costumes that make it easier for drivers to see them.

“We also want to encourage motorists to slow down on Halloween and keep their eyes peeled for children darting out from between cars or crossing an intersection against the traffic light,” Fagiano said. “All residents should be on the lookout for suspicious activities or foul play and report such incidents to the Elmwood Park Police Department. Dial 9-1-1 in an emergency, or (708) 453-2137 for any questions you may have.”

The Village will host a special Kids Halloween Party at the Elmwood Park Recreation Center, 2 Conti Parkway, from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. on October 31. There will be games, candy, haunted house and bounce castle. Parents are encouraged to bring their children to the party before or right after trick-or-treating.

Meanwhile, another sign of the fall season is the conclusion of the Elmwood Park Farmers’ Market. Vendors will be on hand Sunday, October  28, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. for the final time this season in Central Park at Fullerton Ave. and North 75th Ave. Vendors include growers of fresh fruits and vegetables, flowers, cheeses, honey and chocolate products.
