ILLINOIS TOLLWAY TO HOST CONSTRUCTION CONTRACT MEETING

FOR ELGIN O’HARE WESTERN ACCESS PROJECT

Focus on providing detailed information to contractors interested in bidding on upcoming work

DOWNERS GROVE, IL – The Illinois Tollway will host a free event to educate interested contracting firms about upcoming construction opportunities on the Elgin O’Hare Western Access (EOWA) Project. Construction begins this year and is scheduled through 2025.

The construction contract meeting will take place on Thursday, November 7, from 8 a.m. to 11 a.m. at the Westin Chicago Northwest, 400 Park Boulevard in Itasca. The meeting will provide general contractors, specialty subcontractors and subcontractors with a technical project overview, as well as opportunities to network and meet others who may also be interested in participating on upcoming contracts on the EOWA Project.

At the event, Tollway and project staff will provide an overview of the project including technical details, anticipated contracts, general timing and schedule, initial construction contract packaging and staging, and diversity requirements. Contractors will learn details about 2013-2018 construction activities including mainline and off-system improvements, bridges, retaining walls, noisewalls, earthwork, utilities, permitting and drainage.

The EOWA Project is part of the 15-year, $12 billion capital program, Move Illinois: The Illinois Tollway Driving the Future. The project includes construction of 17 new miles of toll roads and 15 interchanges on the Tollway system and involves construction of a new, all-electronic toll road around the western border of O’Hare International Airport linking the Jane Addams Memorial Tollway (I-90) and the Tri-State Tollway (I-294), the extension of the Elgin O’Hare Expressway east along Thorndale Avenue to O’Hare and the rehabilitation and widening of the existing Elgin O’Hare Expressway.

Due to the overall magnitude of the project and potential to dramatically improve mobility, freight connectivity and enhance the national and regional economies, the EOWA Project is considered a Project of National and Regional Significance by the U.S. Department of Transportation.
