March 5th- Wine tasting @ Perry’s Pizza. Learning about wine is a fascinating experience, full of new flavors, new places, and new friends. Join us off -site at Perry’s Pizza Joynt (39 W. North Ave). Pizza, Breadsticks, and refreshments to follow. Only 21+ please. Sign up required.

March 9th-  Get Creative! For grades 1-3. Have some fun with a creative craft based on folk and fairy tales. Limit 24. From 2-3pm. Registration is required.

March 13th- History of Northlake. Local author Edgar Gamboa will be discussing the history of Northlake and how he turned his countless hours of research into a book Northlake: Images of America. 7-8pm

March 16th- Science Saturdays! For grades 3 and up. Explore the wonders of science with hands-on experiments and fun demonstrations. Limit 24. Registration is required. 2-3:30 pm.

March 18th-  Duct tape designs-Back by popular demand! The name says it all. Learn how to make your very own cool accessories out of good ol’ duct tape. 6:30-8 p.m

March 19th- Community book club. Book clubs promote friendship, stimulate intellectual conversation and broaden knowledge through reading. Pick up your copy of our selected title at the reference desk. Third Tuesday of the month, 7-8 p.m.

March 20th- Everything FAFSA. Find out everything you need to know about the FAFSA! What happens to your information after its submitted? How do you read an award letter from a college/university? How does the cost of attendance formula work? Find out the answers to these questions and much more. 6:00-7:00 pm

March 4th- A Brush with Art! Photos transfer block paintings.  Image transfers let you incorporate photos into mixed media paintings without having to give up the original photograph! Bring your own photos, or Molly will have a selection of photos for you to use. We will paint and mount the transfers to a wooden block, resulting in a dimensional finished piece of art. Supplies will be provided. Ages 8 and up. TWO PART SESSION – MUST ATTEND BOTH MONDAY AND WEDNESDAY Signing up for the 4th signs you up for both sessions. 6:30-8:30pm.

March 9, 16 and 23rd- Drop in Tech Help. Bring your tablet, smartphone, eReader, or laptop in to the Library for help getting started with accessing the Internet, learning your device’s features, and using the Library’s digital services. We can also help you with email, social networking or general Internet questions. 10-11am each day.

March 10th- Host your own cookie exchange. The author of Entertaining with Love and founder of Marc-Ryan & Co., Marc will give you tips for planning, packaging your cookies, creating a theme and give you recipes. Participants will take home a starter kit with Easter-themed packaging materials and recipes. This program is for Adults only. Register by 3/8/13. Program from 1:30-3:30pm.

March 11th to the 14th- Beginners week boot camp computer class, 2-3pm.  Learn the basics of computing in this 4 day class. Classes will cover mousing (including different interactions you will come across on the Internet), the physical and software components of the computer, how to access and use the Internet, and Google searching the Internet. You must attend all four sessions.

 

March 12th- Chicks with sticks, knitting club and instruction. Beginners welcome, supplies will be given to you to use. 7-8pm

March 13th- Paper mache Easter eggs. 4-5pm. Decoration date March 20th, 7-8pm.

March 15th- Internet Safety class. Learn how to navigate the Internet safely to protect your identity and information online, 2-3pm.

March 19th- Trivia night at Circle Inn.  Trivia Night is Back! Join us at Circle Inn (7707 Westwood Drive) for a night of Trivia. Bring your friends and form a team of up to 4 people or meet new people and team up. We’ll have prizes for the winners! 7-9pm.

March 22nd- Microsoft PowerPoint. This beginners class devoted to MS Powerpoint 2010. Learn how to create slides, insert pictures, and add transitions and animations. We will also go over some tips and tools to make your slideshows and presentations look more professional, as well as some common mistakes to avoid. 2-3pm.

March 25th- Scales and Tales. Beth Wagner and her animals are coming back! Please join us. You must be signed up to attend this program ~ Limit of 50 children will be strictly enforced. 7-8pm.

March 27th- Potluck book club. The Potluck Book Club meets monthly to share dishes made from a common cookbook. This month, we will be cooking from Jamie Oliver’s Meals in Minutes If you sign up, Dan will contact you the day before the program to let you know how many people we are expecting. You must bring a dish that you made from the book to participate. 6-7pm.

Every Wednesday there is a matinee Movie at 1:30, Film lovers Friday is every Friday at 1:30. Please check with the library for weekly selections.

March 1st- Individual computer help.  If you have a computer question that you need help with, sign up for one 25 minute time slot with a technology clerk. Register early and come prepared with a list of questions that you would like to ask, or a specific thing you want to learn more about. Classes every 25 minutes starting at 2pm.

March 1st- Library 40th Anniversary Gala. Spend time with family, friends, neighbors and library staff enjoying light refreshments, music provided by the Bel Sonore Chamber Ensemble, and the unveiling of The War of the Worlds dust jacket artwork by Alex Ross. 6-9p.

March 4th- Movie Monday featuring Gnomio & Juliet. Popcorn will be provided. 3-5pm.

March 5th, 12th and 19th- Computer literacy series.  Learn the basics of using a computer with this 3 part Computer Literacy Series. This series begins with mousing and ends with internet usage. A great starting point for beginners. Must attend all classes. 7-8pm.

March 7th- Basic online safety.  Learn how to keep your information safe when browsing the internet. We will discuss passwords, antivirus software and malicious downloads. 10:30-11:30 am.

March 15th- Build your resume online.  Come prepared with your work history and we’ll show you how to create a beautiful resume in one of 5 classic styles. Your resume will be created in a PDF format that you can send off to prospective employers or print out at the library. Create a profile if you want to edit your resume at a later date. 3-4pm.

March 16th- Intro to Google.  A beginner’s class for learning how to search the web using the Google search engine. Attendees must have taken the equivalent of mousing and computer basics. 10:30-11:30 am.

March 20th- Take this class to get yourself online. We will learn how to browse the web. Must know how to use the mouse and basic functions of the computer. 7-8pm.

March 26th- Microsoft Word 2 part class. Learn the basics of using MS Word. $20 Fee includes Part 1 & 2 of this Microsoft Word class. Must attend both sessions. 7-8:30.

March 27th- Winter Trivia Night! Bring your team of up to 5 players(or we’ll slot you into a team), and test your knowledge! Categories include Movies, Politics and Current Events, Literature, Music, Geography, Sports and Games, Science and Technology, and Pop Culture. Plus, literary-themed drinks and snacks! 6:30-8pm.

March 8th- Friday Flick, this month join us in watching the oscar award winning film Argo. Refreshments will be served. Starts at 1pm.

March 13th- Teen Tech week. 8 bit art. “Check in” at the Square to make pixel art using candy! We will also be creating pixel masterpieces on the computers and laptops. 5-7pm.

March 16th- Family Game night. Bring the whole family for “Just Dance 4,” board games, and puzzles! 3-4pm.

March 23rd- Family Film day. Wreck it Ralph will be shown at 2pm.

February 25th- March 22nd- Bookmark contest. Children in grades K-8 who attend Schiller Park Schools or who reside in Schiller Park will be able to participate. One winner will be chosen from each grade and will be awarded a prize. A list of the winners will be posted and the winning bookmarks will be printed and distributed in the Youth Service room at the library. Full details will be on the back of each entry form.

March 12th- Easter Bunny Buzz! Join the library on Tuesday from 6:30-7:30 p.m. and hear some Easter stories that will have you hopping for joy. **Please sign-up in the Youth Services Room starting February 12th.

March 16th- Hippity Hop! Visit the library Saturday from 1:30-3:00 p.m. and watch our feature film, with juice, popcorn, and more! **This film is rated PG. Content may not be suitable for younger audiences. Parental discretion is advised. **Please sign-up in the Youth Services Room starting February 16th.

March 20th- Egghead! Join the library on Wednesday from 6:30-7:30 p.m. and craft up something that will crack you up! **There is a limit of 20 children for this craft. Please sign-up in the Youth Services Room starting February 20th.

March 21st- Bunny Land! Children ages Newborn-3 years old, are welcome to join our Bunny Land Egg Hunt and Party on Thursday from 6:00-7:00 p.m. The Egg hunt and party is limited to 50 children, Schiller Park residents only, parent must present a Schiller Park library card at sign-up!! Entry will not be granted without an admission ticket. The Bunny will be here for pictures so make sure to please bring your own camera!! The library will not take pictures!! Please remember to bring a basket for those eggs. Please sign-up in the Youth Services Room starting February 21st. Sign-up cutoff date will be March 16th.

March 23rd- Hidden Easter. The Easter Bunny has hidden all the eggs at the library for our annual Easter Egg Hunt on Saturday from 1:00-2:30 p.m. for children ages 4-12 only. **The egg hunt and party is limited to 100 children, Schiller Park residents only, child or parent must present a Schiller Park library card at sign-up!! Entry will not be granted without an admission ticket. Age groups and times for those who participate: *Age 4-6 begin promptly at 1:15 p.m. *Age 7-9 begin promptly at 1:45 p.m.

March 27th- Bunny Bait! Visit the library on Wednesday from 6:00-6:45 p.m. or 7:00-7:45 p.m. and join us in decorating some no-bake treats the Easter bunny will definitely want to nibble on! **There is a limit of 15 children per session limited to ages 6-14 for this craft!! **Please sign-up in the Youth Services Room starting February 27th.

Reading Time is held every Saturday at 11:00 a.m. in the Youth Services Room, all ages are welcome! No signup needed!
