Northlake hit hard by rains.
After a couple of weeks of dreary rainy days in Chicago and the outlying suburbs, a supersize storm was the finale. On Thursday April 18th a very large rain producing storm left 7″ of rain within 24 hours in Elmhurst, and 6.5″ in Northlake.
At this point the local streams and creeks were already near capacity. This storm was the proverbial “straw that broke the camel’s back” situation. The ground was also very saturated causing water to pool in the low-lying areas. This included residents’ yards and basements. In Northlake the Addison Creek spilled its banks at a southward bend between Parkview, Edwards, and Countryclub. The water reached out across these streets and into homes. The water stretched out west to Williams. Many of these homes were flooded at this site. Barricades were put up by city workers to prevent motorist from attempting to drive through.
On North Avenue, the underpass for the railroad was closed due to flooding through Saturday when it was opened again.
