Saturday, 11/2 @ 11:00am – 12:00pm

Looking for a fun way to boost your reading skills while making a furry new friend? Choose a book and read to Bingley, Bloomberg, Breeze, or Emmy, certified therapy dogs and members of Therapy Dogs International. Space is limited so be sure to sign up early! Registration is required. Ages 5-years-old and up.

Children and their caregivers are invited to join us for an hour of playtime at the Library. Ages 3-months to 5-years-old.

Lego Club

Thursdays, 11/7 @ 4:00 – 5:00pm  -AND-  11/14 @ 6:00-7:00pm

Do you love Legos? Are you a master at building spaceships and towers? Come build with us during this exciting new program made for kids of all ages! Ages 4-years-old and up.

 

Preschool Storytime

Mondays, 11/11, 11/18, 11/25 @ 10:00 – 11:00am

Wednesdays, 11/13, 11/20 @ 7:00-8:00pm

Come sing, dance, and read in this interactive and engaging storytime. Caregivers are required to attend this program with their child to ensure the highest level of learning possible. Come interact and learn the skills required for getting ready to read! Registration is required. Ages 3 to 5-years-old.

 

Dewey Discovery

Wednesdays, 11/13, 11/20 @ 4:00 – 5:00pm  -OR- @ 7:00 – 8:00pm

Can you name all the planets in the solar system? Are you a mad scientist? Do you know the Dewey Decimal System? Join us this month as we explore the non-fiction section of the library. Let’s have fun while learning together! Registration is required. Ages 5 to 8-years-old.

Baby Storytime

Thursday, 11/14 @ 10:00 – 11:00am

Let’s sing, dance, and read together in this storytime designed for our youngest patrons: babies. Registration is required. Ages 3-months to 24-months old.

Twos & Threes Storytime

Friday, 11/15 @ 10:00 – 11:00am

Let’s sing, dance, and read together in this storytime for toddlers and their caregivers. Registration is required. Ages 2 to 3-years-old.

International (Hunger) Games Day

Saturday, 11/16 @ 1:00 – 4:00pm

Celebrate International Games Day with us we play games all afternoon.  To get ready for the release of the movie “Catching Fire” next week, we’ll be playing special, “Hunger Games”-themed games (as well as other board, card, and video games). Refreshments will be available, too. Registration is strongly suggested. All Ages.

Family Reading Night

Thursday, 11/21 @ 5:00 – 8:30pm

Bring the whole family to the library and read in our cozy room full of pillows, blankets, and books. Stop by anytime during the evening. All Ages.

Drop-In Thanksgiving Craft

Teen Advisory Board Meeting

Paying for College: The Financial Aid Process

Need help with something technological? Got a new tablet or eReader that you just can’t figure out? Whether it’s making backup copies of your favorite CD, downloading eBooks, or just confusion about all the new tech stuff that confronts us every day, we’ll help you make sense of it all. Drop-Ins are on a first come, first served basis.

Conversation Circle

Tuesdays, 11/5, 11/12, 11/19, 11/26 @ 7:00 – 8:00pm

Want to practice your English speaking skills in an informal, supportive setting? The Library offers you this opportunity. If you have an interview you need to prepare for, vocabulary you want to practice, or need to become more comfortable shifting from present to past tense – let us know your needs. If there is no set the agenda for the meeting, we will talk about current events, play games, or practice pronunciation.

Friendship Quilting Club

Join us for crafting and camaraderie. Whether you are a newcomer or a long-time enthusiast, you are invited to learn new techniques, talk about fabrics and share patterns.

 

Com Ed Smart Meter Workshop

Thursday, 11/7 @ 7:00 – 8:00pm

Representatives from Com Ed join us to tell us about their new electric smart meters. Learn how they benefit you and improve reliability. Also get helpful advice on how to better use energy and save money. A $25 gift card will be awarded to a random attendee. Registration is required.

 

Friday Flicks

Friday, 11/8 @ 1:00 – 3:30pm

Join us on the second Friday of each month for a new movie release! This month, we’re viewing “Pacific Rim” starring Charlie Hunnam and Idris Elba. It is Rated PG-13 and has a running time of 131 minutes. Refreshments will also be available. Registration is strongly suggested.

Friends of the Library Meeting

The Friends of the Franklin Park Library group is a not-for-profit organization whose mission is to support the Franklin Park Library by providing volunteer services, sponsoring programming and events, and funding library programs. This group is made up of any interested individuals in the Franklin Park community and the local area. If you are interested in becoming a Friend, email friends@fppld.org or come to our meeting.

Knit & Crochet Club

Saturday, 11/9 @ 1:00 – 3:00pm

New members always welcome! Join fellow crafters from every skill level. Learn tips and tricks and share projects you’re creating. This fall, crafters will be making 8″ x 8″ squares which will be made into afghans and throws and given away to local charities.

 

Fiction Book Club

Monday, 11/11 @ 7:00 – 8:00pm

We will be discussing the book Lost December by Richard Paul Evans. Pick up your copy at the Circulation Desk starting a month before the discussion date. Then join us to learn more about the book and partake in a lively discussion. Treats will be served, too. Registration is required.

Board meetings are open to the public. Meetings are held on the second Tuesday of each month.

Local Author Visit

Local author and Franklin Park resident Richard Baran joins us to talk about writing his book The Jacket. He’ll also read from the book and sign copies for the public. Copies of the book will be available to purchase. Registration is strongly suggested.
