Franklin Park Public Library District

October 2 – Coding Club – Good at solving puzzles? Join us to experiment with coding and uncover all the wonderful things you can do with computers & robots! Grades 3-6. 4:00-5:00pm

October 3 – Tween Tuesdays – Are you looking for a place to hang out with your friends while learning, creating, and exploring? Join us once a month for games, crafts, and snacks. Grades 4-6. 4:00-5:00pm

October 4 – Library Quilt & Sew Club – Join us for casual discussion about quilting & sewing, and showing completed projects. We embrace all quilting and sewing skills. 10:00am-12:00pm

October 4 – Comics for Kids – Do you love reading comics and graphic novels? Have you ever wanted to create your own? This is your chance to talk about YOUR favorite titles with other kids and also write and illustrate some comics yourself. Grades 1-6. 4:00-5:00pm

October 5 – Parker’s Storytime – Explore the alphabet with books, songs, and rhymes in this interactive storytime. Parents are encouraged to stay and participate. Ages 3-5 with caregiver. 4:00-5:00pm

October 5 – Full STEAM Ahead – Join us as we travel full STEAM ahead into science, technology, engineering, art, and math! Grades 1-3. 4:00-5:00pm

October 6 – Morning Movers Storytime – Develop your child’s early literacy skills through songs, rhymes, reading, and play. Ages 0-3 with caregiver. 10:00-11:00am

October 6 – You Pick Flicks – Join us for our new program where YOU get to pick the movie! We will select a few titles and let you make the final choice. For kids of all ages. 11:00am-1:00pm

October 6 – Battle of the Pizzas – It’s that time of the year again! You get to decide who makes the best pizza in Franklin Park! Taste delicious pizza from local restaurants and vote for your favorite. Tickets are required and can be picked up at the Kids Crossing Desk. 6:00-7:00pm

October 7 – Friends of the Library Meeting – The Friends of the Franklin Park Library support the Franklin Park Library by providing volunteer services, sponsoring library events, and funding library programs. New members are always welcome. 9:30-11:00am

October 7 – Arts & Snacks – Drop in for some art! Create a masterpiece at your library. We will have all sorts of art supplies available and a bunch of snacks to keep you going. This program is for teens & adults. 1:00-4:00pm

October 9 – LEGO Club – If you are an experienced builder or a first timer, this is the place for you! We provide the LEGO bricks and monthly challenges; you provide the imagination. For kids of all ages. 4:00-6:00pm

October 10 – Morning Preschool Storytime – Join us for a themed storytime filled with stories, songs, and other activities that encourage a love of language and learning. Ages 3-5 with caregiver.  10:00-10:30am

October 11 – Fall Flavors Tasting – Delight your senses with flavors of fall! Sample apples and pumpkin spice treats. 2:00-3:30pm – OR – 6:00-7:30pm

October 12 – Lights Out, Everybody: Mystery and Horror in the Golden Age of Radio – Join radio historian and Those Were the Days host Steve Darnall for a look back at the “Golden Age” of radio, and how a generation of actors, writers and technicians used sound to create very real—and sometimes very frightening—“pictures.” 6:00-7:00pm

October 13 – Friday Flicks – Join us each month to watch a newly released movie! This month’s movie is Wonder Woman (PG-13). Refreshments will also be available. 2:00–4:30pm

October 13 – Franken-Toys – Here’s your chance to create your very own franken-creature! We’ll provide supplies so you can bring your spooky ideas to life, but you’re welcome to add a personal touch if there are stuffed animals you no longer use. Grades 3 & up. 4:00-5:00pm

October 13 – Friday Family Flicks – Join us each month for a family-friendly movie! This month’s movie is The Nightmare Before Christmas (PG). Refreshments will also be available. 6:00-7:15pm

October 14 – Masquerade Tea Party – Feel warm and cozy as you enjoy autumnal teas and scrumptious treats. All ages are invited and costumes are encouraged. 1:00-3:00pm

October 14 – Knit & Crochet Group – New members always welcome! Join fellow crafters from every skill level. Learn tips and tricks and share projects you’re creating. 1:00-3:00pm

October 16 – Caldecott Club – How is an award-winning picture book chosen? Find out when you have a chance to read, view, and talk about possible 2018 Caldecott contenders. Those who attend at least one club date will receive an invitation to the voting party in January. Grades 1-6. 4:00-5:00pm

October 18 – Now You’re Cooking – Have fun making yummy recipes, and then sample your culinary creations. Grades 2-8. 4:00-5:00pm

October 19 – Illinois Ghosts and the Afterlife – Paranormal investigator Terry Fisk joins us to discuss some of the haunted locations in Illinois that he has investigated. He will share photos, case histories, eyewitness accounts, and ghost lore. He also describes his ghost investigations with world-renowned medium Allison DuBois (the real-life inspiration for the hit CBS series, Medium) and psychic Chip Coffey (from TV’s Paranormal State and Psychic Kids), as well as his confrontations with famous skeptic and debunker James Randi. 6:00-7:00pm

October 20 – Morning Movers Storytime – Develop your child’s early literacy skills through songs, rhymes, reading, and play. Ages 0-3 with caregiver. 10:00-11:00am

October 20 – Escape the Library – Put your puzzle solving skills to the test and challenge our escape room! Can you Escape the Library? Grades 7-12. 6:00-7:00pm

October 21 – Friends of the Library Membership Drive – Celebrate National Friends of Libraries Week with refreshments and a free prize raffle. Have you ever wondered what the Friends of the Library group is all about? This is the perfect opportunity to come and find out! 1:00-3:00pm

October 23 – Scrapbooking Club – Bring your photos, unfinished scrapbooks, and any material you’d like to trade with others. For teens and adults. 6:00-8:00pm

October 26 – Fantastic Crafts – Join us and watch Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them and make you own dragon egg. Supplies and snacks provided! Grades 7-12. 6:00-8:00pm

October 27 – Morning Movers Treat Parade – Bring your little monsters in for not-so-scary stories and a special trick-or-treat parade around the library. Costumes are encouraged, but not required. For ages 0-3 with caregiver. 10:00-11:00am

October 27 – Haunted Gingerbread Houses – Build your own spooky and delicious gingerbread house! Supplies will be provided. All ages. 4:00-5:00pm

October 27 – Anime Club – Come join us at Anime Club! Draw and paint your own manga. Snack on delicious Japanese snacks. Watch your favorite anime. Grades 7-12. 6:00-7:30pm

October 30 – Halloween Storytime – Join us for spooky tales, a Halloween craft, and sweet treats as we trick or treat around the library. Costumes are encouraged but not required. All ages. 6:00-7:00pm
