Story time                                                 October 2, 9, & 16 4 pm or 7 pm

Come sing, dance, and read together in this interactive story time. Caregivers are highly encouraged to attend this program with their children. Come interact and learn the skills required for getting ready to read!  Ages 3 – 5-years-old & caregivers

 

Dewey Discovery                                           October 2, 9, & 16 4 pm or 7 pm                                                                                                                                                                                                                               Join us for Dewey Discovery this month as we explore the non-fiction section of the library. Let’s have fun while learning together!  Ages 5 – 8-years-old

 

Lego Club                             Thursday, October 3 at 4 pm and October 10 at 6 pm                                                                                                                                                                                                        Do you love Legos? Are you a master at building spaceships and towers? Come build with us in this exciting new program made for all ages!

Lapsit                                                                        Fridays, October 4 & 18 at 10 am                                                                                                                                                                                                                            Let’s sing, dance, and read together in this story time designed for the Franklin Park Public Library’s youngest patrons, babies and toddlers. Ages 0 – 3. and parents and care givers.

Franklin Bark Readers  * New! *                 Saturday, October 5 at 11 am                                                                                                                                                                                                                               Looking for a fun way to boost your reading skills while making a furry, new friend? Choose a book and read to a certified therapy dog. Space is limited, and registration is required. A big thank you to Rainbow Animal Assisted Therapy, Inc. for bringing their teams to the Library.     Ages 5-years-old and up

 

Dinosauria!                                            Monday, October 14 at 6 pm

Have you ever wanted to see a real dinosaur bone? Celebrate International Dinosaur Month when Lisa Zago & Don Pfister visit to tell us about their dino digs and discoveries and show us real dinosaur bones and other fossils.  All Ages

Family Game Day                                    Saturday, October 19 from 11 am – 3 pm

Join us for some Family Game Day fun. There will be board games for all ages, puzzles, and Wii games set up to play. It’s sure to be fun for the whole family.  All Ages.

 

Halloween Storytime                           Wednesday, October 30, from 6  to 7 :30 pm                                                                                                                                                                                            Costumes, dancing, treats, and stories, this Halloween Storytime has it all! After reading Halloween themed books, making a craft, and dancing along to the “Monster Mash,” we will trick-or-treat around the library in our costumes. Be prepared for a great time!    Ages 2 – 8-years-old and parents with cameras.

 

For Tweens

Tween Scene                                                Tuesdays, October 1, & 29   at 4 pm

Take a break from your homework with us in this hour long program made just for Tweens, ages 9-13. This month we will explore Banned Books week and paper crafts.  Ages 9 – 13-years-old

 Allegiant Release Party                                            Monday, October  21 at 6 pm

Celebrate the release of the last book in the trilogy! Choose your faction and create your own faction-themed swag. Test your Divergent and Insurgent knowledge in our trivia challenge for a chance to win prizes. Faction-inspired snacks will be served. Registration is required.       Teens

Friendship Quilt Club                                 Wednesdays, October 2 & 16 at 10 am

Come share quilting tips and projects with other quilters!  Beginners are always

welcome.

 Paranormal 102                                                   Thursday, October 3 at 7 pm

Investigators from TNT Paranormal join us to follow up last year’s successful “Paranormal 101” program.  During this session, they will discuss investigative methods used to determine paranormal or unexplained activity.  Examples of their past investigations will also be provided.

Conversation Circle                                Saturdays, October 5, 12, 19, & 26 at 2 pm

Are you a non-native English speaker who wants to have fun and meet people from all over the world while practicing your spoken English?  Then this is the place for you!

Bee of Service                              Mondays, Oct. 7, 14, 21, & 28, from 10 am -12pm

Join your fellow knitters and crocheters in our Library’s Bee of Service.  Come in and  work on producing squares for donations.  Great way to learn new stitches and to use  up your old yarn.  Call Karen Gurski  at 847455 6016 ext 234 for more information.

 

 Tech Help Drop-In                    Mondays, October 7, 14, 21, & 28, from 5:30 – 8:30 pm

If you need assistance with completing specific technology-related tasks (email, e-books, e-anything) and aren’t sure where to begin, our Information & Digital Services staff is here to help! Drop-Ins are available Monday evenings and are first come, first served. Check-in with the Information Desk.

 Friends of the Franklin Park Library                           Saturday, October 12 at 9:30 am

Attend our monthly Friends meeting. The Friends support the Library through volunteerism, fundraising activities, and sponsorship of programs and activities.

Knit & Crochet Group                                                 Saturday, October 12 at 1 pm

Join us on the second Saturday of each month to learn tips for knitting and crocheting or to share projects you’re working on.

Finding Grandma’s Ancestors                       Sunday, October 13 at 2  pm

Genealogist Steve Szabados joins us to share his personal experiences searching for his grandmother’s ancestors and provides tips about resources you can use when tracing your heritage.  This program will be helpful for those researching most European backgrounds.

The Book Club has been split up into two groups, representing Fiction and Nonfiction books. The next Fiction Book Club will meet, in November.   Copies of Book club selections are available at the Circulation Desk one month before the discussion date. Nonfiction Book Club
