Halloween Hoot

Friday, October 31st 4-6pm

Location: North Park, 10040 Addison St.

Ghosts and goblins, come dressed in your Halloween best! This evening will be full of trickish games and crafts, but don’t be scared. Join us in our annual costume contest. Winners will be selected for scariest, cutest, and most unique costumes, and prizes will be awarded. Bring your monster appetite; hotdogs and refreshments will be provided for the whole family!

Polar Express

Saturdays; December 6th, 13th, and 20th 2:30-4:45pm

Location: Franklin Park train station, 25th and Pacific.

ALL ABOARD! This December, experience themagic of Christmas on a holiday train to the North Pole! Enjoy Christmas caroling, cookies, milk and an interactive holiday story as we make our way to the North Pole (Elgin Train Station). Santa boards the train, greets each child with a special treat as we make our way back to Franklin Park. The Park District provides chocolate milk and a cookie to everyone.

Ages 2 and under are free but MUST be registered

Big Band Dinner Dance Sunday, Nov. 9th  2:00-4:30pm

Location: Centre at North Park, 10040 Addison Street

Dance all afternoon to the sounds of the great bands from the ‘40s and ‘50s. Ballroom dancing, waltzing, cha-cha, rumba—whatever you choose! We have plenty of mixers to make sure everyone gets a chance to dance. Or come watch the dancers while socializing with new and old friends. We will have door prizes, so don’t forget to fill out your raffle ticket. The Park District will provide soft drinks, coffee, and snacks. A cash bar is also available.

Adults, Fee: $10 per person; pay at the door

Educational Programming

After School Program

Monday-Friday, Present-End of May • 3:00 -6:00 pm

Location: Community Center, 9560 Franklin Ave.

Are you looking for an affordable, fun and reliable place for your child to go after school? If so, the Park District has what you are looking for. Our After-School program allows children to get exercise in our gym through fun games and activities, have a small snack, and get help with their homework if needed. Our goal is to make your night easier by finishing homework and wearing the kids out with play and social interaction.

Grades 1-8, Daily fee $9 and $3 for transportation, $12 for non-District 84 schools

2014-2015 Kindergarten Enrichment

Monday – Friday, Aug. 13, 2014-Dec. 16, 2014 • 12:30 pm –- 3:30 pm

Location: Sunflower Nature Center at North Park, 10040 Addison Avenue

Our new Kindergarten Enrichment program provides a quality enrichment experience for kindergarten-age children attending half-day kindergarten programs. This unique and multifaceted program is designed to spark children’s interest in a variety of activities, including art, music, theater, movement, science and child-led play. The program follows the District 84 school-year calendar. Working parents who desire extended hours for their child can enroll in the Early Start Program beginning at 11:30 am and ending at 12:30 pm. Children in the Early Start program must bring a lunch and beverage. Open registration, so students may register at any time. Call Phyllis Schmidt at 847-451-8135 with any questions.

Winter Break Camp

 

We play daily gym games and sports to warm up your days off, like dodge ball, kickball, red rover and soccer. We also take a trip to the Ice Arena, make holiday-themed crafts and much more!

Teen Programs

Teen Night Friday, October 24th  • 7:00 PM – 9:00 PM

Location: TBA

Are you sick of doing the same boring thing every Friday Night? If so, come to Teen Night. Listen to music, hang out with your friends and play some games. With different locations for Teen Night, you have the opportunity to play basketball, volleyball, dodgeball and table tennis. Don’t sit home on the computer. Come out and hang out face-to-face with your friends. Teen passes required for all participants. Teen passes are free initially but are $6 for replacements. Participants need to show a current school report card/schedule and fill out our teen pass form.

GRADES 6-8, $5 at the door

Adult Athletics

Men’s Basketball League

Mon/Weds; Jan 19 thru April 29th • games at 7, 8 & 9 pm

Where: Community Center.

Our regular season and single elimination tournament keeps you fit until the weather breaks. Teams must have uniforms (Park District will provide at cost for teams who do not) and play at least once a week. For more information contact Dan at 847-455-2852.

Adult Programs and Trips

Knitting, Crocheting & Needlepoint Club

First and third Tuesday of each month • 1:00-2:30 pm

Location: Community Center, 9560 Franklin Ave.

This free program is designed for anyone who would like to learn how to knit, needlepoint, crochet or simply get together with others to complete their projects. Two members have volunteered to bring extra supplies and give tips and instructions to those who may need them.

AARP Driver Safety Saturday, Sept 20 • 8:30am-5:30 pm

Tues/Weds, Oct. 28-29 * 9:00am-1:00pm

Location: Community Center, 9560 Franklin Ave.

AARP Smart Driver is the nation’s first and largest driver safety course designed especially for drivers ages 50+. In addition to our award-winning classroom and online course, AARP Drive Safety includes additional programs and education materials available to our host partners. AARP Driver Safety is one of the best examples of AARP at the local level.

Ages 55 and up, Fee: $15/AARP member, $20 non-member

 

Adult Fitness Programs

Gentle Yoga

Thursdays, Oct. 23-Dec. 18 •10:00 -11:15 am

Location: Centre at North Park, 10040 Addison

Gentle yoga is for those who never practiced yoga and for those preferring a less vigorous, less physically demanding style. Each class begins with a slow warm-up, yoga stretches and ends with relaxation.

Ages 15 and up, $40R/$44NR

 

Zumba

Monday, Oct. 13-Dec. 15 • 6:30-7:30 pm

Wednesday, Oct. 15-Dec. 17 • 6-7 pm

Location: Centre at North Park, 10040 Addison

Zumba uses captivating Latin rhythms and simple dance moves and creates a fun, fast-paced fitness program. This class features routines with interval training sessions where fast and slow rhythms are combined to tone and sculpt your body while burning fat.

Total Body Fitness

Wednesday, Oct. 15-Dec. 17 • 9-10 am

Friday, Oct. 17-Dec. 19 • 9-10 am

Location: Centre at North Park, 10040 Addison

Looking for variety in your workout? Each week we learn a different routine starting with a warm-up followed by hi-low aerobics, step or interval training. We also concentrate on muscle toning and strengthening using free weights. Class ends with a relaxing stretch. A wide selection of music is used to keep the workouts fun and exciting, including rock, pop, Latin and dance! *Please bring an exercise mat, weights and water bottle.

Ages 15 and Up, $36/$40,

 

The Park District offers various fitness classes including Adult Aquacize, R.I.P.P.E.D., Yoga, Total Body Fitness, Step, Zumba, Adult Hip-Hop Cardio and Table Tennis.

 

Fitness Center

Now offering junior memberships for ages 1117!!!

Have your parent register you for The Fitness Center at the Park District of Franklin Park; 9560 Franklin Avenue The fitness center includes two separate rooms and 17 state-of-the-art Life Fitness machines. A Fitness Center pass may be obtained at the Community Center, with various membership plans to choose from. A yearly pass is less than $10 per month, payment plans are available. Fitness Center hours are 6 am-9 pm Monday-Friday, 9 am-6 pm on Saturdays and 9 am-7:30 pm on Sundays.
