Mother Son Bowl

Saturday, March 2 • 12:00-2:00 p.m.

Location: Brunswick Zone, River Grove

Put on those bowling shoes and hit the lanes for cosmic bowling with Mom at Brunswick Zone in River Grove. This memorable afternoon includes pizza, bowling, and a special photo of mothers and sons. Who will get the most strikes? Join us to find out!

Flashlight Easter Candy Hunt

Location: North Park, Baseball Fields, 10040 Addison Avenue

When the sun dips low over North Park, it’s time for the Flashlight Easter Candy Hunt. This Easter candy hunt will take place in the dark, so bring your flashlight to help find all the candy hidden in the park. Don’t forget a container to hold all of your goodies! Bring your camera; the Easter bunny will be there!

Breakfast with Bunny

Location: Centre at North Park, 10040 Addison   Avenue

Bring the entire family and hop into spring! Celebrate Easter with your kids by treating them to a continental breakfast with the Easter Bunny. Enjoy bunny games and a craft corner. Guess how many jelly beans are in a jar and win a great prize! Have your picture taken with the Easter Bunny and receive a special Easter treat. Advance registration is required.

This year, don’t worry about traveling across town to participate in an egg hunt. Enjoy an egg hunt in your very own neighborhood park. Hundreds of Easter candy treats are scattered in the field, waiting for you to collect them. The event lasts only a few minutes but creates memories that last a life time! Youth Programs

After School Program

Monday-Friday, January 7-May 22 • 3:00 -6:00 p.m.

Location: Community Center, 9560 Franklin Ave.

Are you looking for an affordable, fun and reliable place for your child to go after school? If so, the Park District has what you are looking for. Our After-School program allows children to get exercise in our gym through fun games and activities, have a small snack, and get help with their homework if needed. Our goal is to make your night easier by finishing homework and wearing the kids out with play and social interaction.

Grades 1-8, Daily fee $9 and $3 for transportation, $11 for non-District 84 schools

Is your child too young for Preschool? Look no further! This early childhood education class is a great way to introduce your child to school. This innovative program offers a range of opportunities to help each child develop to their full potential. We follow a yearly curriculum, and students have the chance to explore different learning centers, such as dramatic play, books, music, blocks and puzzles. Snack time and gym time are also included daily. Open registration, so students may register at any time.

2012-2013 Kindergarten Enrichment

Monday – Friday, August 15–- December 17 • 12:30 p.m. –- 3:30 p.m.

Location: Sunflower Nature Center at North Park, 10040 Addison Avenue

Our new Kindergarten Enrichment program provides a quality enrichment experience for kindergarten-age children attending half-day kindergarten programs. This unique and multifaceted program is designed to spark children’s interest in a variety of activities, including art, music, theater, movement, science and child-led play. The program follows the District 84 school-year calendar. Working parents who desire extended hours for their child can enroll in the Early Start Program beginning at 11:30 am and ending at 12:30 pm. Children in the Early Start program must bring a lunch and beverage. Open registration, so students may register at any time. Call Phyllis Schmidt at 847-451-8135 with any questions.

Each week we will explore an exciting theme! This program offers an afternoon of variety activities including arts and crafts, music, games, scavenger hunts, snack time, gym and story time. This program focuses on gross and fine motor skills, language arts, creative art, nature exploration and, most of all, fun playtime with friends from school in a safe and familiar environment.

Dance Classes

It is recital season for our Winter/Spring dance classes. Dance courses begin in January. Register today by calling the Park District at 847-455-2852. Our programs offer a variety of dance classes for children ages 3-14. Have your child try Pre-Ballet, Creative Movement, Cheerleading, Tumbling and Tap at the Community Center, just to name a few.

Kid’s Karate Club

Beginners: Wednesday, March 13-May 8 • 6-6:45 p.m.; Wednesday, March 15-July 10 • 6-6:45 p.m.

Want to be the next Karate Kid? You can, with the Kid’s Karate Club program. This progressive martial arts program teaches the basics in karate, self defense, sparring and safety. Parents may participate with their children at no additional cost as part of our parent helper program. Family involvement and respect are key elements, and children are encouraged and motivated to do their best in all aspects of their lives. There are many karate programs, but only one Kid’s Karate Club. Uniforms are mandatory ($35) and may be purchased from the instructor. Additional costs include belt testing ($38). Micro T-ball

Batter up! Your micro player is in store for a lot of fun with our most popular micro program. Participants learn the fundamentals of baseball and interact with other players along the way. Each week, participants work on basic skills and play an informal game. This class provides great memories, so bring a camera with plenty of film or memory. Each participant receives a baseball. Please bring your own glove.

Youth Programs

Stars of Tomorrow Acting Class

Tuesdays and Thursday, January 15-February 21• 6-7:30 p.m.

Location: North School, 9500 Gage Street

This theater class is designed to teach children and teens the basics of theatrical performance as well as scenic design. Students learn improvisation, pantomime, prop work, how to create a character, and how to collectively put on a show. The work culminates with a performance for families to showcase what the students created. The skills learned in this class are designed to introduce children to the creative art of theater and enhance their development. Please note: Performances will be held the last day of class.

Magic Class

Children are guaranteed to have a great time as they learn fascinating tricks from the Magic Team of Gary Kantor! Amaze your family and friends with tricks that involve cards, ropes, coins, mind reading and more. While tricks may appear difficult, you’ll discover that they are quick to learn and easy to perform. All materials are provided, and each child receives a magic kit to take home. Children are grouped by age and learn tricks that are age appropriate. You can sign up for this class again and again — brand new tricks are taught at each session! Pre-registration is required.

Spring Break Camp

If you want to keep your child active during spring break, our camp is the place to be. Arts, crafts, sports, board games and a trip to the Ice Arena make this camp full of action! If the temperature is good, we will be going outside, so dress accordingly. Be sure to bring a sack lunch every day and a snack for before and after campers.

Teen Nights

Are you sick of doing the same boring thing every Friday night? If so, come by Teen Night. Listen to music, hang out with your friends and play some games. With different locations for Teen Night you will have the opportunity to play basketball, volleyball, dodgeball, air-hockey, foosball and table tennis. Don’t sit home on the computer! Come out and hang out face-to-face with your friends.

Learn to Swim

Session II:

Location: Mannheim Middle School, Melrose Park

Join our fun and safe swimming classes instructed by our water safety instructors. These classes will help your child learn to be safe when they are in, on or around water–while having fun! We will emphasize swim strokes/techniques, a variety of safety skills, and emergency readiness. Your children will learn skills that are important for their safety, which will stay with them forever.

Ages 5 and up, $45R/$52NR

Adult Aquacize

Monday & Wednesday, April 3-May 13 (Session II) • 5:30-6:15 p.m.

Location: Mannheim Middle School, Melrose Park

Have fun while enjoying great and effective programs for rehabilitation, arthritis sufferers, pregnant women and seniors. These exercises will give you the gentle resistance needed to keep muscles toned and strong, without added stress to joints. Various water tools will be used. Aquatic shoes are recommended for comfort. Please consult your physician before starting any new exercise program.

Ages 18 years and up, $35R/$40NR

Adult Open Swim

Monday & Wednesday, April 3-May 13 (Session II) • 6:15-7:00 p.m.

Location: Mannheim Middle School, Melrose Park

Enjoy the opportunity to stay fit and enjoy a summer activity during those cold, winter months! Kickboards and pull buoys are available for your training use. A swim cap must be worn by all participants and will be available for purchase at the pool. Please consult your physician before starting any new exercise program.

Adult Programs and Trips

Knitting, Crocheting & Needlepoint Club

First and third Tuesday of each month • 1:00-2:30 p.m.

Location: Community Center, 9560 Franklin Ave.

This free program is designed for anyone who would like to learn how to knit, needlepoint, crochet or simply get together with others to complete their projects. Two members have volunteered to bring extra supplies and give tips and instructions to those who may need them.

Gardening Club

Thursday, February 21 • 7 p.m.

Location: Sunflower Nature Center, 10040 Addison   Street 

This new club is dedicated to providing opportunities for people to learn and discover the joys of growing their own produce. Our top priority is to grow as a group of gardeners who share, learn and teach each other all about gardening. What we will do is provide people a place to grow their own food, create a place for people to learn how to garden and mentor gardeners (young and old). Fiddler on the Roof at the Paramount Theatre

Wednesday, March 6 • 10 am-5:30 pm

Location: Paramount Theater, Aurora

The unmistakable image of a Fiddler on the roof is a metaphor for balancing life, survival and tradition. This is the story and journey of love, loss, beliefs and family. Fiddler on the Roof is a celebration of life and all its challenges. Lunch on your own at a local restaurant. Registration deadline is March 1. This is a cooperative trip with the Rolling Meadows Park District.

Adult Fitness Programs

The Park District offers various fitness classes including Adult Aquacize, R.I.P.P.E.D., Yoga, Total Body Fitness, Step, Zumba, Zumba Toning with Mat Pilates, Adult Hip-Hop Cardio and Table Tennis.

FitnessCenter

Now offering junior memberships for ages 1117!!!

Have your parent register you for The Fitness Center at the Park District of Franklin Park; 9560 Franklin Avenue The fitness center includes two separate rooms and 17 state-of-the-art Life Fitness machines. A FitnessCenter pass may be obtained at the Community Center, with various membership plans to choose from. A yearly pass is less than $10 per month, payment plans are available.  Fitness Center hours are 6 am-9 pm Monday-Friday, 9 am-6 pm on Saturdays and 9 am-7:30 pm on Sundays.
