Polar Express

Saturday, December 1 • 2:30-4:45 p.m.

Saturday, December 8 • 2:30-4:45 p.m.

Location: The Franklin Park Train Station, 25th and Pacific

ALL ABOARD!! Children and Parents take a ride to the North Pole to see Santa Claus on our own Polar Express. During the ride, sit and listen to the story, Polar Express, and the beautiful sounds of carols led by a special choir. The 20-minute trip to the North Pole (Elgin Train Station) ends with Santa greeting everyone and distributing a present to each child. Then the Polar Express will return toFranklin Park. The Park District will provide chocolate milk and a cookie to everyone on the train. You are welcome to bring your own snacks for the train ride. Please meet at the Franklin Park Train Station located onPacific Avenuebetween Rose (25th Ave.) and Calwagner streets. Children 2 and under are free but must be pre-registered. Please do not wait until the last minute to register; spaces fill quickly!

All Ages, Fee: Children 3 and up $10 R/$15 NR; Adults: $11 R/$16 NR

 

Rockin’ New Year’s Eve Celebration

Monday, December 31 • 12:00-2:00 p.m.

Location: Community Center

Ring in the New Year early with your children before heading out for your evening celebration. Our Rockin’ New Year’s Eve celebration features live children’s entertainment, pizza, refreshments, party favors, face painting and a New Year’s countdown. Young ones are sure to have an amazing and memorable time! A parent is required to stay with their child at this event. Pre-registration is required.

Youth Programs

After School Program

Monday-Friday, August 15-December 21 • 3:00 -6:00 p.m.

Location: Community Center, 9560 Franklin Ave.

Are you looking for an affordable, fun and reliable place for your child to go after school? If so, the Park District has what you are looking for. Our After-School program allows children to get exercise in our gym through fun games and activities, have a small snack, and get help with their homework if needed. Our goal is to make your night easier by finishing homework and wearing the kids out with play and social interaction.

Grades 1-8, Daily fee $9 and $3 for transportation, $11 for non-District 84 schools

 

2012-2013 Tot School

Monday, Wednesday and Friday and/or Tuesday, and Thursday, September 5– December 7 • 9:15 p.m. – 10:45 a.m.

Location: Community Center, 9560 Franklin Ave.

Is your child too young for Preschool? Look no further! This early childhood education class is a great way to introduce your child to school. This innovative program offers a range of opportunities to help each child develop to their full potential. We follow a yearly curriculum, and students have the chance to explore different learning centers, such as dramatic play, books, music, blocks and puzzles. Snack time and gym time are also included daily. Open registration, so students may register at any time.

Ages 24–35 months

 

2012-2013 Kindergarten Enrichment

Monday – Friday, August 15–- December 17 • 12:30 p.m. –- 3:30 p.m.

Location: Sunflower Nature Center at North Park, 10040 Addison Avenue

Our new Kindergarten Enrichment program provides a quality enrichment experience for kindergarten-age children attending half-day kindergarten programs. This unique and multifaceted program is designed to spark children’s interest in a variety of activities, including art, music, theater, movement, science and child-led play. The program follows the District 84 school-year calendar. Working parents who desire extended hours for their child can enroll in the Early Start Program beginning at 11:30 am and ending at 12:30 pm. Children in the Early Start program must bring a lunch and beverage. Open registration, so students may register at any time. CallPhyllis Schmidtat 847-451-8135 with any questions.

Tot Classes

Little Explorers: Animals and Winter

Thursday, December 20 • 4:00 – 5:00 p.m.

Where: Sunflower Nature Center, 10040 Addison Street

Learn about what happens to animals when it becomes cold outside and how they prepare themselves for winter. Children will play games and create an art project.

Ages 4-7, Fee $5 R/$7 NR

Dance Classes

The Park District of Franklin Park offers a variety of dance classes for children ages 3-14. Have your child try Pre-Ballet, Creative Movement, Cheerleading, Tumbling and Tap at the Community Center, just to name a few.  For a full listing of dance classes offered call 847-455-2852 or visit fpparks.org.

Youth Programs

Stars of Tomorrow Acting Class

Tuesdays and Thursday, November 6-December 13 (Session II) • 6-7:30 p.m.

Where: North School, 9500 Gage Street

This theater class is designed to teach children and teens the basics of theatrical performance as well as scenic design. Students learn improvisation, pantomime, prop work, how to create a character, and how to collectively put on a show. The work culminates with a performance for families to showcase what the students created. The skills learned in this class are designed to introduce children to the creative art of theater and enhance their development. Please note: Performances will be held the last day of class.

Ages 6-14, Fee $65/$75

 

 

Winter Break Camp

Monday, December 24 – Fri, January 4 • 9:00 a.m.-3:00 p.m.

Where: Centre at North Park, 10040 Addison Street Ages 5-14 years

Winter breaks will never be the same with this exciting two week camp! Daily we play gym games and sports to warm up your days off, like dodge ball, kickball, Red Rover and soccer. We’ll also take a trip to the Ice Arena, make holiday-themed crafts and much more! Remember to bring a change of clothes because if the weather allows, we will build snowmen and forts. Please bring your own lunch daily.

Teen Programs

Teen Nights

Are you sick of doing the same boring thing every Friday night? If so, come by Teen Night. Listen to music, hang out with your friends and play some games. With different locations for Teen Night you will have the opportunity to play basketball, volleyball, dodgeball, air-hockey, foosball and table tennis. Don’t sit home on the computer! Come out and hang out face-to-face with your friends.

Adult Programs and Trips

Macy’s Holiday Celebration and Christkindlemarket

Thursday, November 29 •  9:00 a.m.- 4:00 p.m.

Location: Chicago, IL

Ring in the holiday season with a trip to check-out Macy’s holiday storefront windows! After viewing the windows and doing a little shopping we will sit down to enjoy lunch in the Walnut Room. After lunch we will be making a stop atDaleyPlazato check out the Christkindlemarket. This day will be full of holiday cheer and will be one that you will not want to miss!

Ages 18 and up, Fee: $65/ $70

 

Holiday Lights Tour

Thursday, December 13 •  4:00 – 9:00 p.m.

Location: Chicago, IL

This holiday lights tour will display the best front-yard displays in the northwest suburbs. The tour will be led by Mary Edsy, author of the award winning guidebook, The Best Christmas Decorations in Chicagoland. This trip will start off with a dinner at DiMaggio Café and then we will be en route to enjoy caroling, a holiday quiz and visits with some of the decorators.

Ages 18 and up, Fee: $85/ $90

Adult Fitness Programs

The Park District offers various fitness classes including Adult Aquacize, R.I.P.P.E.D., Yoga, Total Body Fitness, Step, Zumba, Zumba Toning with Mat Pilates, Adult Hip-Hop Cardio and Table Tennis.

FitnessCenter

Now offering junior memberships for ages 1117!!!

Have your parent register you for The Fitness Center at the Park District of Franklin Park; 9560 Franklin AvenueThe fitness center includes two separate rooms and 17 state-of-the-art Life Fitness machines. A FitnessCenterpass may be obtained at the Community Center, with various membership plans to choose from. A yearly pass is less than $10 per month, payment plans are available.  Fitness Center hours are 6 am-9 pm Monday-Friday, 9 am-6 pm on Saturdays and 9 am-7:30 pm on Sundays.
