 Daddy Daughter Dance

Friday, February 7 • 7:00-9:30 pm

Saturday, February 8 • 6:30-9:00 pm  

Location: North Park, 10040 Addison Street

A lovely evening for daddies and daughters of all ages!  This event continues to grow every year.  This memorable event will include a delicious dinner, music, dancing all night long, flowers, a photo with dad, and a special treat!  Register early; space is limited

Mother Son Strike Zone
Saturday, March 22nd  12:00 – 2:00 pm

Location: Centre at North Park, 10040 Addison Street

Put on those bowling shoes and hit the lanes for cosmic bowling with mom at Brunswick Zone in River Grove.  This memorable afternoon includes pizza, bowling, and a special photo of mom and her son(s).  Who will get the most strikes?  Join us to find out!

Big Band Dinner Dance
Sunday, Feb. 9th, March 9th, and Apr 13th  2:00-4:30pm

Location: Centre at North Park, 10040 Addison Street

Dance all afternoon to the sounds of the great bands from the ‘40s and ‘50s.  Ballroom dancing, waltzing, cha-cha, rumba—whatever you choose!  We have plenty of mixers to make sure everyone gets a chance to dance.  Or come watch the dancers while socializing with new and old friends.  We will have door prizes, so don’t forget to fill out your raffle ticket.  The Park District will provide soft drinks, coffee, and snacks.  A cash bar is also available.

Educational Programming

After School Program

Are you looking for an affordable, fun and reliable place for your child to go after school? If so, the Park District has what you are looking for. Our After-School program allows children to get exercise in our gym through fun games and activities, have a small snack, and get help with their homework if needed. Our goal is to make your night easier by finishing homework and wearing the kids out with play and social interaction.

Grades 1-8, Daily fee $9 and $3 for transportation, $12 for non-District 84 school

 

2013-2014 Kindergarten Enrichment

Monday – Friday, January 6, 2014-May 22, 2014 • 12:30 pm –- 3:30 pm

Location: Sunflower Nature Center at North Park, 10040 Addison Avenue

Our new Kindergarten Enrichment program provides a quality enrichment experience for kindergarten-age children attending half-day kindergarten programs. This unique and multifaceted program is designed to spark children’s interest in a variety of activities, including art, music, theater, movement, science and child-led play. The program follows the District 84 school-year calendar. Working parents who desire extended hours for their child can enroll in the Early Start Program beginning at 11:30 am and ending at 12:30 pm. Children in the Early Start program must bring a lunch and beverage. Open registration, so students may register at any time. Call Phyllis Schmidt at 847-451-8135 with any questions.

Youth Programs

Magic Class
Thursday, February 27 • 5:00 – 5:55 pm

Where: Community Center, 9560   Franklin Ave.

Children are guaranteed a great time as they learn fascinating tricks from the Magic Team of Gary Kantor! Amaze your family and friends with tricks involving cards, ropes, coins, mind reading and more. While tricks may appear difficult, you’ll discover they are quick to learn and easy to perform. All materials are provided and each child receives a magic kit to take home. Children are grouped by age and learn age appropriate tricks. You can sign up for this class again and again — new tricks are taught each session! Pre-registration is required.

Ages 5-12 years, $20/$24

 

Stars of Tomorrow Acting Class

Tuesdays and Thursday, January 14 – March 6 (Session I) • 6-8:00 pm

Where: North School, 9560 Gage Street

This theater class is designed to teach children and teens the basics of theatrical performance as well as scenic design. Students learn improvisation, pantomime, prop work, how to create a character, and how to collectively put on a show. The work culminates with a performance for families to showcase what the students created. The skills learned in this class are designed to introduce children to the creative art of theater and enhance their development. Please note: Performances will be held the last day of class.

Ages 6-14, Fee $100/$110

Teen Programs

Teen Night
Friday, January 31st • 7:00 PM – 9:00 PM

Location: Community Center, 9560 Franklin Ave.

Are you sick of doing the same boring thing every Friday Night? If so, come to Teen Night. Listen to music, hang out with your friends and play some games. With different locations for Teen Night, you have the opportunity to play basketball, volleyball, dodgeball and table tennis. Don’t sit home on the computer. Come out and hang out face-to-face with your friends. Teen passes required for all participants. Teen passes are free initially but are $6 for replacements. Participants need to show a current school report card/schedule and fill out our teen pass form.

GRADES 6-8, $5 at the door

Adult Athletics

Men’s Basketball League

Mon/Weds,  January 20-April 16 • 7, 8 & 9 pm

Where: Community Center, 9560   Franklin Ave.

Don’t let the winter keep you inactive; join our Men’s Basketball League. With a 10-game regular season and single elimination tournament, we keep you fi t until the weather breaks. Teams must have uniforms (Park District will provide at cost for teams who do not) and play at least once a week. For more information contact Dan at 847-455-2852. Aquatic Programs

Family Swim Night

Friday, February 7-May 9 • 6:00-7:30 pm

Location: Mannheim Middle School, 2600 Hyde Park, Melrose Park

Get the family together and enjoy an evening close to home. The warm water will warm you up inside as fall comes and the weather turns cooler. Mannheim pool is a beautiful indoor heated pool that families can enjoy on Friday nights. Children under the age of twelve must be accompanied by an adult.

Please note: All participants must wear a swim cap. Caps will be available for purchase at the pool. Swim floats and/or water wings are not allowed.

All Ages (children 12 and under must be accompanied by an adult), Fee: Individual: $25 R/$30 NR

 

Youth Swim Lessons

Tuesday & Thursday, March 4-April 15 (Class A Session II) • 5:30-6:15 pm

Location: Mannheim Middle School, 2600 Hyde Park, Melrose Park

Join our fun and safe swimming classes instructed by our water safety instructors. These classes will help your child learn to be safe when they are in, on or around water–while having fun! We will emphasize swim strokes/techniques, a variety of safety skills, and emergency readiness. Your children will learn skills that are important for their safety, which will stay with them forever.

Ages 5-12 years, Fee: $50 R/$60 NR

Adult Programs and Trips

Knitting, Crocheting & Needlepoint Club

First and third Tuesday of each month • 1:00-2:30 pm

Location: Community Center, 9560 Franklin Ave.

This free program is designed for anyone who would like to learn how to knit, needlepoint, crochet or simply get together with others to complete their projects. Two members have volunteered to bring extra supplies and give tips and instructions to those who may need them.

AARP Driver Safety
Mon/Tues, Feb. 24/25 • 12:00 pm-4:00 pm

Location: Community Center, 9560 Franklin Ave.

AARP Smart Driver is the nation’s first and largest driver safety course designed especially for drivers ages 50+.  In addition to our award-winning classroom and online course, AARP Drive Safety includes additional programs and education materials available to our host partners.  AARP Driver Safety is one of the best examples of AARP at the local level.

Ages 55 and up, Fee:  $15/AARP member, $20 non-member

 

Rules of the Road
Wednesday, May 14 • 9:30 am – 2:00 pm

Location: Community Center, 9560 Franklin Ave.

If your license is due for renewal this year, be sure to take advantage of this FREE refresher course offered by the Secretary of State’s office. Laws changes, signs changes—do not get caught unprepared. The review course combines an explanation of the driving exam with a practice written exam. The course lasts approximately two hours. Pre-registration is required. To register call 847-455-2852.

Adult Fitness Programs

Gentle Yoga

Thursdays, January 9-February 27 •10 -11:15 am

Location: Centre at North Park, 10040 Addison

Gentle yoga is for those who never practiced yoga and for those preferring a less vigorous, less physically demanding style. Each class begins with a slow warm-up, yoga stretches and ends with relaxation.

Zumba

Monday, Jan 6-Feb 24 • 6:30-7:30 pm

Wednesday, Jan 8-Feb 26 • 6-7 pm

Location: Centre at North Park, 10040 Addison

Zumba uses captivating Latin rhythms and simple dance moves and creates a fun, fast-paced fitness program. This class features routines with interval training sessions where fast and slow rhythms are combined to tone and sculpt your body while burning fat.

Total Body Fitness

Monday, Jan 6-Feb 24 • 9-10 am

Looking for variety in your workout? Each week we learn a different routine starting with a warm-up followed by hi-low aerobics, step or interval training. We also concentrate on muscle toning and strengthening using free weights. Class ends with a relaxing stretch. A wide selection of music is used to keep the workouts fun and exciting, including rock, pop, Latin and dance! *Please bring an exercise mat, weights and water bottle.

Ages 15 and Up, $32/$36, Friday’s session is $32R/$36NR

 

The Park District offers various fitness classes including Adult Aquacize, R.I.P.P.E.D., Yoga, Total Body Fitness, Step, Zumba, Zumba Toning with Mat Pilates, Adult Hip-Hop Cardio and Table Tennis.  

Fitness Center

Now offering junior memberships for ages 1117!!!

Have your parent register you for The Fitness Center at the Park District of Franklin Park; 9560 Franklin Avenue The fitness center includes two separate rooms and 17 state-of-the-art Life Fitness machines. A FitnessCenter pass may be obtained at the Community Center, with various membership plans to choose from. A yearly pass is less than $10 per month, payment plans are available.  Fitness Center hours are 6 am-9 pm Monday-Friday, 9 am-6 pm on Saturdays and 9 am-7:30 pm on Sundays.
