September is National Library Card Month

| August 17, 2013

The Franklin Park Public Library is joining with libraries across the nation to promote awareness of the benefits of possessing and using a library card.

Owning a library card is the best deal in town – it’s FREE! A library card is the most important school supply a child needs! The library provides access to entertainment, knowledge, and services through databases, books-magazines-music-movies-computers-printers-copiers-free WiFi-and programs for adults, teens, & children.

Some of the exciting resources a library card gives access to include

  • E Media Library  provides digital collections of eBooks & audiobooks
  • Zinio has over 40 digital magazines for you to checkout and read.
  • The Auto Repair Reference Center offers auto repair information on vehicles from the 1950s – 2010. Watch videos, learn care and repair tips and discover the best troubleshooting methods.
  • Chicago Tribune’s Archives go back to 1860 for obituaries, death notices, articles, and front pages.
  • NoveList Plus, provides information on books and authors, including  reading lists, book discussion ideas, & book reviews.
  • Reference USA is the source for data about businesses & residents nationwide. A great tool for researchers, students, and job seekers.
  • Ancestry.com and HeritageQuest are two genealogical sources that allow you to start your family history.
  • LearningExpress gives students of all ages practice taking over 300 common exams.
  • Transparent Language Online  gives you access to enjoyable active learning of 80 languages.

During the month of September, the Franklin Park Public Library will be holding weekly raffles, as well as, a grand raffle at the completion of the month, for prizes donated by our local businesses. Entry into the raffles may be gained by using your Franklin Park Public Library card or by registering for a Franklin Park Public Library card.
