Triton’s Cernan Center Announces May/June Show Schedule

Children and adults alike can add enjoyment to their leisure time by attending a program at Triton College’s Cernan Earth and Space Center. The upcoming schedule, which runs now-June 2, 2013, is as follows:

Earth & Sky Shows

On Orbit. Take a virtual tour of the International Space Station with this video-based program that features NASA footage taken by astronauts. 7:30 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays. (The 7:30 Saturday evening program will be replaced by the Monthly Skywatch on May 18.)

Skywatcher’s Guide. New! Each month, this mini-show keeps you up-to-date on what’s happening in the current sky. 7:30 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays and 3 p.m. Sundays. (The 7:30 Saturday evening program will be replaced by the Monthly Skywatch on May 18.)

Laser Motown. This laser show features 12 classic Motown hits, including songs by Diana Ross, The Four Tops, The Temptations, Marvin Gaye and more. 9 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays.

Pop Rock 2 Mini Laser Show. This sampling of songs from the Cernan Center’s collection of laser light shows features The Lion SleepsTonight, Purple People Eater and When I’m Sixty-four.  9 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays.

Our Place in Space. Hosted by several animal characters, this show explores the causes of day and night, the importance of our sun, the beauty of the constellations and the variety of objects in the universe. 2 p.m. Sundays.

The Friendly Stars Mini Show.  Hosted by an animated sun (named Sol), this children’s mini show describes the very basics of astronomy, including stars, the sun, planets and the current season’s star pictures. 2 p.m. Sundays.

Stellar Extremes.  This program explores the extremes of stars, from the smallest to the largest, the hottest to the coolest and the normal to the incredible. 3 p.m. Sundays.

Mini Legends Mini Laser Show. This sampling of songs from the Cernan Center’s collection of laser light shows features songs by Led Zeppelin, Jimmy Hendrix and the Rolling Stones. 3 p.m. Sundays

Admission and Additional Information

Admission for Earth and Sky Shows, Children’s Shows or Monthly Skywatches: $8 adults; $4 children 2 to

12, and senior citizens 55 and over; children under 2 – free; and Triton College students with current semester ID – free (courtesy of TCSA).
Admission for Laser Light Shows: $10 adults; $5 children 2 to 12, and senior citizens 55 and over; children under 2 – free; and Triton College students with current semester ID – free (courtesy of TCSA).

Located on the campus of Triton College in River Grove, Ill., the Cernan Earth and Space Center houses a 100-seat dome theater, featuring star-filled planetarium shows, wraparound films, children’s shows and laser light shows, along with a Space Hall and Star Store gift shop. The center is open seven days a week.
