What’s coming up at Triton College

River Grove, Ill. – The following are events coming up at Triton College. All of the events listed are free and open to the public and will take place on Triton’s River Grove campus, located at 2000 Fifth Ave., unless otherwise stated.

Sept. 27

Fall Family Fun Fest, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., Botanical Gardens

Prepare for non-stop fun at Triton College’s Annual Fall Family Fun Fest, where families can enjoy new games, activities, exhibits and fall favorites, such as the ever-popular pumpkin patch and straw maze, in Triton’s Botanical Gardens. Sept. 29 through Oct. 17

West Suburban Artists Guild, Fine Arts Gallery, Room J-107 (J Building)

The annual West Suburban Artists Guild exhibit features the works of lifelong and beginning artists in many media. Members compete for awards which will be announced at a gala reception. For local art lovers, this is a show to see! A public reception is scheduled for 7 p.m. Oct. 17 in the gallery. Campus Visit Day, 6 to 7:30 p.m., Student Center (B Building)

Prospective students can learn everything they need to know about enrolling at Triton College during Campus Visit Day. The event will discuss admission and financial aid topics, introduce students to Triton’s faculty and provide campus tours. Oct. 17-19 and 23-26

Triton College Performing Arts Department presents “The Zoo Story” and “The Sandbox”, Cox Auditorium, Room J-108 (J Building)

Triton College’s Performing Arts Department will perform Edward Albee’s “The Zoo Story” and “The Sandbox,” two short plays that combine for one evening of compelling and profoundly affecting theater of the absurd. In “The Zoo Story,” a man sits peacefully reading on a sunny afternoon in Central Park. Soon, he is joined by a stranger who has been to the zoo. With provocative humor and unrelenting suspense, their simple conversation takes drastic turns. In “The Sandbox,” Mommy and Daddy take Grandma to the beach, where they meet a young man doing his exercises. As this bright day becomes deep night, the afternoon’s darker purpose is revealed. Showtimes are 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Fridays and Saturdays and 2 p.m. Sundays. Tickets are $12 for general admission and $10 for Triton students, faculty and staff and senior citizens. Inside Secrets of the Job Search Workshop, 6 to 7:30 p.m., Triton College University Center (Room B-111) of the Student Center

The secret is out! Come learn “secret” job seeking tips to put you ahead of the competition at this workshop. Learn about tips for customizing your resume, effective networking skills, strategies for building interviewing confidence, and how to follow up after an interview. Fall College Visit Day, 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., Robert M. Collins Center

High school students interested in learning more about Triton College can benefit from attending Fall College Visit Day. Prospective students can learn about the college experience from students and faculty, tour Triton’s campus, attend information sessions on a variety of topics and talk to financial aid and admission representatives on how to finance their education and successfully enroll in college. The club, open to community members, hosts informational sessions, while providing guidance and support to job seekers. Children are invited to the Triton College Library with their parents to participate in a special Lego™ robot-building activity. The library will supply all the materials; just bring your creativity! Expert builders will be on hand to help during this no cost activity. No registration is required, but space is limited and will be based on first come-first served. The evening includes a presentation on the latest news from NASA in the space center’s dome theater and outdoor skygazing with telescopes. Admission for the indoor planetarium portion of the Monthly Skywatch is $8 for adults and $4 for children ages 2 to 12 and senior citizens ages 55 and older. The outdoor telescope session is free.
