Triton College Scholarship Winners
Triton College congratulates its scholarship winners
River Grove, Ill. – Several Triton College students who’ve taken part in the college’s Scholars Program have received scholarships to four-year institutions to continue their education:
Demilade Akinrotimi of Elmwood Park
High School: Nigeria
Clubs/Organizations: Student Ambassador, Bible Club, My Roots Club
Volunteer Sites: Triton College Tutoring Center
Akinrotimi received a scholarship and will attend the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.
Louis Alexander of Oak Park
High School: Oak Park-River Forest
Clubs/Organizations: Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society as Vice President of Scholarship
Volunteer Sites: Science Tutor at Triton College, West Suburban PADS Homeless Shelter
Alexander received the Triton College Scholars Program Full Scholarship for $50,000 from Elmhurst College.
Joseph Arreola of Melrose Park
High School: Proviso Math and Science Academy
Clubs/Organizations: Bible Club, Green Club, Vice President of Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society
Volunteer Sites: West Suburban PADS
Arreola received a $26,000 scholarship and will attend the Illinois Institute of Technology.
Shannon Evanson of Forest Park
High School: Missouri University High School
Volunteer Sites: Animal Care League (no-kill animal shelter)
Evanson won the Phi Theta Kappa All-Academic Team Award, in addition to a $3,000 scholarship. Evanson will attend DePaul University.
Timothy Ragin of Oak Park
High School: Fenwick
Clubs/Organizations: Bible Club
Ragin will attend the University of Illinois at Chicago.
The Scholars Program at Triton College challenges in-district high school students to achieve academically with a rigorous program that includes honor classes and a service learning component. Many students in the Scholars Program go onto receive scholarships to four-year universities to continue their studies.
Eligibility requirements are demanding. To be considered for the program, which accepts a maximum of 60 students annually, students planning to pursue an associate of arts or science degree at Triton must have an ACT score of at least 25 or a GPA of 3.5 (on a 4.0 scale or equivalent), as well as high school faculty and counselor recommendations and additional indicators of academic potential.
